More than
just a sauna
We spend most of our lives in two places. Home and work. And somewhere along the way we forgot that we need somewhere else, a third place. Somewhere that's neither productive nor domestic. Somewhere you go just to be.
Sauna is one of the oldest third spaces there is. Communities have been gathering around fire and heat for thousands of years, not to optimise, not to perform, just to be warm together. To rest. To talk or not talk. To remember what it feels like to be a body that isn't rushing anywhere.
That's what Chiltern Sauna Circle is. A healthy third space. Somewhere to pause in a world that doesn't make pausing easy. Somewhere the heat does the work and you don't have to.
Meet Anna.
The founder of Chiltern Sauna Circle.
Chiltern Sauna Circle started with a slow accumulation of the wrong kind of tired. Too long in corporate, too long being busy in a way that left nothing behind. Sauna kept showing up for me as the antidote.
Not because of what it does to the body, although it does plenty. But because you can't perform in a sauna. You have to sit there and learn to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. The heat, the stillness, the fact that everyone in the room is equally human. It brings people's guards down in a way that almost nothing else does.
I followed that feeling across Finland, Lithuania, Norway, Scotland, Cornwall, Ireland. Each place taught me something different about what sauna can be and how much it holds. I cried leaving Helsinki airport on my last trip. On the way out I bought a sign for a sauna I didn't even own yet. But I knew it would exist one day and almost two years later here we are.
Anna is a Level 2 trained sauna master with the International Bath Academy, the Digital Content Lead for the British Sauna Society, and a qualified yoga teacher with The House of Yoga in Putney.
She's has trained in Pirtis in Lithuania and studied and trained in sauna traditions across Ireland, Scotland, and England. She's embedded in the UK sauna community, genuinely passionate about where the culture is heading, and has spent years understanding what makes a sauna experience truly good.
When you come to Chiltern Sauna Circle, you're not just booking a hot room. You're in the hands of someone who has made this their life's work.
